What is Chest Resonance?
Chest resonance is the vibration you feel in your sternum and ribcage when you speak or sing in your lower range. Place your hand flat on your chest and say "HUH" at a low pitch β you'll feel the bones buzzing. That's chest resonance.
It's the foundation of vocal power and the easiest resonance to feel physically, which is why we start here.

π€ Practice: Feel Your Chest Resonance
Click the microphone button and sing a low "MAH" or "HUH." Watch the spectrum β chest resonance shows strong energy in the lower frequencies (below 500 Hz).
What is Head Resonance?
Head resonance is the vibration you feel in the bones of your skull β your forehead, the crown, and the sinuses. It creates the bright, ringing quality that lets opera singers project over an orchestra.

π€ Practice: Find Your Head Resonance
Hum a high "MMMMM" or sing "NEE." Head resonance shows energy shifted to the RIGHT of the spectrum (higher harmonics, 2000β4000 Hz).
What is Nasal Resonance?
Nasal resonance is the vibration through the nasal passages and the "mask" area β the bridge of the nose, the cheekbones, the area around your eyes.
Important: Nasal resonance β a "nasal" sound. A nasal sound (honky, pinched) means too much air through the nose. Nasal resonance means the bones are vibrating sympathetically.

π€ Practice: Find Your Nasal Resonance
Sing "NEE" or "MING" at a medium pitch. Touch the bridge of your nose β feel the buzz.
What is Oral / Overtone Resonance?
Oral resonance is the amplification in your mouth cavity β the space between your tongue, palate, cheeks, and lips. It's where vowels get their identity and overtones are shaped.

What is Pharyngeal Resonance?
The pharynx is the tube at the back of your throat. It's where the Italian concept of gola aperta (open throat) lives. A well-opened pharynx adds depth, warmth, and carrying power.

What is Low Body Resonance?
Low body resonance is the sensation of vibration in your abdomen, lower back, and pelvic floor. Bass singers know this well β when they hit their lowest notes, the whole torso buzzes.

Real Singing = Multiple Resonances
No one sings with just one resonance area. Real vocal production is always a blend. VRN's power is in combining symbols to describe exactly what that blend is.
[H+++, N++, O+] = Dominant head, strong mask (classical soprano)
[C+, P++, L+] = Light chest, deep throat, grounded (bass warmth)
