🎤 Vocal Resonance Notation Legend
📋 About This Notation Format
COSMOS uses ASCII piano roll notation rather than traditional 5-line staff notation with treble and bass clefs. This is a text-based version of the piano roll view found in digital audio workstations (DAWs), where pitch is shown on the vertical axis and time/duration on the horizontal axis.
Pitches are labeled with pitch-octave notation (e.g., C4 = middle C, A4 = 440 Hz, E7 = extreme high soprano). This format is:
- AI-readable — Unambiguous and machine-parseable for synthesis
- Universally accessible — No music theory training required
- Format-independent — ASCII renders anywhere, no proprietary software needed
- VRN-compatible — Can encode Vocal Resonance Notation, which traditional staves cannot capture
See Vocal Resonance Notation for complete documentation of the VRN system.
